Importers, others barred from entering examination, port areas

KARACHI: In bid to ensure security of examination and port areas, the Model Customs Collectorate of Appraisement West, through a notification, has restricted the access of importers and customs agents into examination area.

According to the notification, it had been observed with concern that there is unnecessary movement of unauthorized persons in the port area.

The Karachi International Container Terminal (KICT) management is therefore directed not to allow entry of any person unless, he has proper request of re-examination of container along with examination report or the entry of same is authorized by Deputy Collector/Assistant Collector Customs to terminal authorities on prescribed format.

The KICT authorities on their own would only issue entry pass to such clearing agents/importers who produce request of re-examination and examination report of their consignment to KICT authorities.

In all the other cases, importers/ clearing agents would contact the Deputy Collector office, either telephonically or through email, and explain them the reasons of their visit.

The Deputy Collector Examination, on the basis of requests received would send the names of persons to reception area of KICT and only such persons would be permitted to enter in KICT.

KICT would issue proper visitor jackets and visitor cards to all the visitors and their movement would be only restricted to the waiting area in the office Deputy Collector /Assistant Collector. In case, any visitor is found in the area without visitor jacket and card, or without proper authorization, he would be removed from the area by KICT security staff or customs staff.
