LAHORE: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) show of power at Minar-e-Pakistan ground all sorts of business activities to a halt as the entire city wore a desert look while transport remained thin on the roads.
Though it was Sunday, the public meeting affected the business activities adversely while people faced great difficulty in carrying out routine activities of life. The PTI public meeting affected the functioning of Sunday bazaars as well and number of both the stall-holders and consumers remained low. On the other hand, lack of transport and blockade of roads forced the goods transporters to cancel shipment of cargos. Apart from other entry and exit points of the city, Azadi Chowk intersection remained blocked due to the PTI public meeting as the venue for the meeting – Minar-e-Pakistan is adjacent to the intersection.
Meanwhile, all public parks and other recreational points wore a deserted look, virtually forcing closure of all related businesses. Moreover, all main markets and shopping centres, which otherwise would have been opened as Eidul Azha is around the corner, remained closed, causing the businessmen huge losses. The public meeting also deprived the street vendors and makeshift shopkeepers of business who usually do business on Sundays or on special occasions like eids.
