Imran’s showdown and stock exchange woes

As the country is already suffering various kinds of woes, including terrorism and energy crisis, the political showdown between the government and Tehrik-e-Insaf Pakistan chief Imran Khan has further plunged the nation into another chaos. The stock market, which was labeled as best in the region, has started nose diving and $3.35 billion have lost in one day. What happened in Islamabad a day ago is disappointing and a point to ponder for all stakeholders. At a time the enemy is using all its abilities and resources not only to isolate Pakistan in the comity of nations, but also destabilize peace in the country. Mr Khan may have the right to protest on moral and political grounds, but doing right thing at the wrong time is also wrong. This is the time the country needs peace and stability and all the stakeholders should have to come on one page. Instead, polarization has increased and it is difficult to understand who the advisors of Mr Khan are and what kind of objectives he wants to achieve at the moments of crisis.

On another note, the government is in the habit of using all its abilities to mishandle, misjudge and misunderstand every petty issue. The PTI planned to stage a sit-in in Islamabad on November 3, but the way the government treated the protesting political workers is not appreciable. The current government strategy reminds the days of 80s and 90s when the Pakistan People’s Party was treated and mistreated during the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government and in turn the People’s Party paid back in the same coin with dividends after coming to power. One fails to understand why the PML-N leadership has refused to learn from its past mistakes and has adopted the same tactics and same language against the PTI what it used to use against the PPP. The PML-N stalwarts must understand that this is not 90s, but the age of information. Our eternal enemy is aggressively knocking our doors and using all its resources and means to destabilize the country. In the current situation, when exports are falling, stock market is shedding points and political atmosphere is charged, who will come to invest in this country. The people are the ultimate losers in the game of thrones.

The only way to normalize the situation is the dialogue. When the government begs India, Afghanistan and Bangladesh for dialogue, what goes wrong if it negotiate with the PTI.The people can only pray for the safety and security of the country as the current political scenario is taking the hope of a bright future away from them.
