BANGALORE: Two persons were arrested by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) police of Bangalore city here the other day for allegedly peddling the contraband amphetamine drug. One kilogram of the drug has been seized.
The arrested persons were identified as Vasan M, 34, of Royapettah, Chennai and Raju Gandhi S, 27 of Ambur in Vellore district in Tamil Nadu.
One kilogram of amphetamine worth around Rs 30 lakh and two mobile phones were seized from the accused persons, additional commissioner of police (traffic and security) M A Saleem said. The arrests were carried out by the Women and Narcotics squad of the CCB on a tip off.
The arrests were done near the Prashanth Hotel in Palace Guttahalli in central Bangalore. A medical prescription drug Amphetamine is often abused for recreational purposes.
Preliminary investigations had revealed that accused men sourced the Amphetamine from a person identified as Venugopal in Chennai and came to Bangalore to hand it over it to receivers. The receivers were identified as Vinod Kumar of Kaval Byrasandra, Ravi and Srinivas of Seshadripuram, Krishnamurthy and Keshava of the Cantonment area and Jai Prakash of Gayathrinagar in Bangalore.
“We have collected the phone numbers of the alleged receivers and efforts are on nab them,” R Ramesh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (crime) said.
