NEW DELHI: A special team from the City Task Force (CTF), led by Inspector Ilyas Mohammed, intercepted a van at Kurmannapalem tollgate here the other night and arrested an alleged ganja smuggler and seized 21 kg of dry ganja.
The ganja was neatly packed in two-kg packets and was stacked in a specially fabricated box under the driver’s seat. The CTF seized 11 such packets.
On enquiry, the driver of the van, who is also the smuggler, Bhukya Balaji (24), said that he had procured the contraband stuff from one G. Suribabu of Koduru village in V. Madugula mandal of Visakhapatnam district and was transporting it to Warangal district.
According to Inspector Ilyas Mohammed, the smuggler, a native of Mogilicherla village of Warangal district, had come in contact with Suribabu about a year ago and since then he had been in the trade.
So far, he had made 15 such trips, said the Inspector.
After procuring the ganja, Bhukya Balaji would sell it one Saran Singh of Maharashtra at Jaggampeta in Warangal district.
The CTF has launched a manhunt for G. Suribabu. The accused, along with the seized van and ganja, were handed over to the Duvvada police for further investigation.
