PANAJI: The air intelligence wing of the commissionerate of customs seized 349g of gold worth 8.27 lakh being smuggled by two men at the Goa International Airport at Dabolim.
The officials questioned Mohammed Mashallah Khan and Irshad Khan alias Shaheen Hussain Gadkar, both residents of Delhi for allegedly smuggling gold into the country.
The two arrived by an Air India Dubai-Mumbai-Goa flight which landed in Goa in the early hours of Sunday.
Customs officials checked the men and found three gold biscuits which were immediately seized. Since the quantum of gold was not huge, the men were released after a case was filed against them for attempting to smuggle gold.
Gold seizures at the Goa International Airport have become a routine affair with small amounts of the precious metal being seized every week by customs officials.
