TAMIL NADU: A special squad of the Kollam Excise here the other day arrested a man from a train at the Paravur railway station and seized 8 kg of cannabis (ganja) from him.
Circle Inspector B. Suresh who led the squad said that the arrest was on the basis of a tip-off received by Excise Commissioner Anil Xavier.
Mr. Suresh identified the man as D. Anil Kumar, 42, of Attingal.
The ganja was being brought from Madurai in Tamil Nadu.
Muruganandan, a native of Madurai, who was accompanying Anil Kumar managed to escape, he said.
Via trains
Mr. Suresh said that the Excise had received information that trains from Tamil Nadu had recently become the major mode of ganja smuggling into the State.
The arrested was produced before a magistrate court here and remanded in district jail for14 days. The squad that arrested him comprised inspector V. Vinod and preventive officers K. Shyam Kumar and B. Anil Kumar.
