NEW DELHI: The combined value of the photovoltaic (PV) cells and modules imported in India grew by 185% year-on-year to USD 2.34 billion (EUR 2.1bn) in fiscal 2015/16, The Hindu BusinessLine said Wednesday. China accounted for 83% of that, according to the report. The Asian country’s market share increased from 73% a year back.
Malaysia exported USD 189 million worth of solar cells and modules to India, more than double the USD 83 million sold in the prior fiscal year. At the same time, India’s PV equipment exports inched up to USD 171 million from USD 168 million a year ago. Most of the exported cells and modules, or USD 108 million in total, were shipped to the UK. This compares to USD 46 in fiscal 2014/15, the newspaper says.
