AHMEDABAD: With year-end parties close at hand on December 31, city and district police have stepped up their efforts to stop illegal liquor consignments reaching the city .
In the past fortnight, four consignments have been seized by law enforcement agencies.
According to Ahmedabad rural police’s special operations group (SOG), a team caught Shivam Pandit from Manipur near Bopal with three bottles of IMFL and Rs11,000 cash. He later led the team to the house of Girish Thakor at Shaktinagar from where police seized IMFL and beer worth Rs 57,000.
On Friday , Ahmedabad police’s prevention of crime branch (PCB) caught Javed Khan Pathan, 26, a resident of Fatewadi, and Wakil Ahmed Ansari, 26, a resident of Gomtipur, from near Sahajanand College, while the duo was ferrying liquor worth Rs 72,000 in a car. Police have named four others in the incident.
“Ahmedabad police teams have seized IMFL from cars abandoned by fleeing bootleggers from SP Ring Road, SG Road and Thaltej crossroads in the past fortnight. In total, the liquor recovered is worth more than Rs 2 lakh,” said a city police official.
