Indian Air Customs seizes 1.5kg gold worth Rs 61.35 lakh at airport

NEW DELHI: Contraband gold worth Rs 61.35 lakh has been seized in two separate incidents at Kempegowda International Airport here.

“We have seized contraband gold of Rs 61.35 lakh in two separate incidents at KIAL,” Customs Additional Commissioner D Anil said in a release here.

In the first seizure yesterday, a packet containing three pieces of cut gold bars weighing 1.5 kgs in total, valued at Rs 40 lakh, was seized by customs officials from a flight which had arrived from Dubai.

The contraband gold was concealed inside the pipe-like structure below a seat, he added.

Today, officials recovered 800 grams of gold valued at Rs 21.35 lakh abandoned by a passenger in a toilet at the arrival hall of the airport, he said.

A probe is underway to apprehend persons who had left behind the packets, he added.
