NEW DELHI: District officials have seized over 8,000 tonnes of sand illegally stored along the Manjra river bed in Bidar taluk. In an operation spanning three days, which involved over 20 officers, sand beds were raided and river sand was seized.
The harvest, storage, transport or use of river sand in unlicensed areas is banned by the Supreme Court.
“On the directions of Deputy Commissioner Anurag Tewari, we have seized sand and informed the jurisdictional court,” tahsildar C. Lakshmanrao told media here the other day.
