BAREILLY: A joint team of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and Special Task Force (STF) on Saturday arrested two members of an inter- state gang of drug peddlers and seized 80 kg of charas worth more than Rs 1 crore in international market, from their possession.
According to reports, officials of NCB and STF received a tip-off that some persons would be smuggling contraband into Rampur from the Nepal border via Bareilly.
A joint team laid a trap and arrested two persons from a spot near Bilwa village under Bhojipura tehsil on Saturday night. The suspects were trying to smuggle the contraband in a pick-up van.
The arrested were identified as Mohd Adil and Mohd Jawed, both residents of Rampur. The raiding team recovered 80 kg of charas worth more than Rs 1 crore in international market from their possession, said STF official Ajay Pal Singh who was also a part of the team.
He told TOI that the charas was brought from a contact in Nepal and was being taken to Rampur on the instructions of a Rampur-based drug smuggler.
A few days ago, police had seized around 110 kg of charas from the possession of two persons who were smuggling it from Uttarakhand for supplying it to a drug smuggler in Rampur.
