MANGALORE: Customs officials at Mangalore airport have busted a gold smuggling racket and seized 1.1667kg of gold worth Rs3.1 million.
A press release from Deputy Commissioner of Customs (Airport) Krishna Kumar Prasad stated that the smuggling of gold came to light when Jet Airways Flight No 9W531 landed at Mangalore International Airport from Dubai around 8.45 am. The gold was in two packets wrapped with black insulation tapes and affixed behind the mirror of the rear toilet of the flight. Each packet contained five gold bars.
