HYDERABAD: Customs sleuths arrested two smugglers who arrived from Dubai at the RGI Airport in the wee hours of Wednesday and seized 3.3 kilo gold worth Rs 80 lakh from their possession.
The two were friends and they had concealed gold powder in shoe soles, an Air Intelligence Unit official of the customs department said. During the screening of passengers, who arrived by an Emirates flight, the sleuths found the duo wearing shoes with abnormally thick soles. When the shoes were inspected, they found gold powder in gel form.
The two were arrested and they would be produced in court on Thursday.
