AMRITSAR: Illegal exchange of goods between from India into Pakistan under the garb of barter trade in Jammu and Kashmir could come to an end with Amritsar customs commissionerate announcing to take stern measures to check malpractices.
The government had made provision to barter goods produced in Kashmir and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) to facilitate people of the two areas. However, many traders had been misusing the facility by trading in other items considered as third country goods, Amritsar customs commissioner Sunil Sawhney told mediapersons here on Saturday.
After restructuring of the customs department, the anti-smuggling operations in J&K have been entrusted to customs (preventive) commissionerate, Amritsar. The two trade facilitation centres at Chakan Da Bagh in Poonch and Salamabad in Uri districts are being administered by the Amritsar customs office.
