Gold import has been capped by the central government so gold is being smuggled through various means into the country, especially since gold is available at a cheaper rate in Dubai and Sharjah.

Two months back, a team of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) acting on intelligence inputs had busted a gold smuggling racket after seven men were caught including a passenger and six other airline officials with three kilogram gold at city airport.
