NEW DELHI: Five persons, including three women, landed in police net when they were reportedly going to Andhra Pradesh to fell and smuggle red sander trees, on Tuesday.
Tirupattur Town police were checking vehicles near the Pudupettai Road junction when they intercepted two sports utility vehicles.
While one vehicle was driven by Vadivelan (38) of Karumbur in Kurusilapet, the second vehicle was driven by Syed Jabbar (25) of Hosur with three women in it – Manga (60), Sarasu (35) and Periyathaai (35) of Periyathalapadi, Uthangarai.
After inquiry the women confessed that they were going to Andhra Pradesh to smuggle red sander trees. Police recovered knives and swords from them.
The five told the police that three – Selvaraj, Kumar and Afrose – had asked them to go ahead and that they would join them later. The trio ares absconding. Police have arrested the five persons.
