NEW DELHI: District Collector M. Lakshmi has ordered the detention of M. Manikandan (27) of Sankarapuram under the Prevention of Black Marketing and Maintenance of Supplies of Essential Commodities Act.
According to police, Manikandan was involved in the smuggling of ration rice meant for supply under the Public Distribution System (PDS). He was recently arrested by the Civil Supplies CID for diverting and smuggling 41 bags of ration rice in a Tata Ace vehicle and an auto rickshaw for sale in the open market. The detention order was served on him in the Cuddalore Central Prison.
