KARNATKA: In a major haul, the Kadapa police here the other morning seized around 1.2 tonnes of red sanders logs worth more than Rs. 2 Crore which was clandestinely dumped in a warehouse at Katikanahalli near Bengaluru in Karnataka.
Kadapa Superintendent of Police Naveen Gulati told the media that based on the information provided by Lakshman Thamang, a Nepalese smuggler who was arrested in New Delhi on July 15, a police team raided the warehouse and seized the precious logs.
Nabbed by a special party from Kadapa, Thamang was brought to Kadapa and produced before the Siddavatam court on July 19.
Now, he is under 6-day remand with the Railway Kodur police for interrogation.
“The information from Thamang led us to Katikanahalli, leading to the seizure. We are working out plans to nab more number of international red sanders smugglers in future,” Mr. Gulati said.
Earlier, the Kadapa Police kept the arrest and remand of Thamang under wraps as part of the investigation proceedings.
