VISAKHAPATNAM:The district police seized around 1,300 kgs of ganja from an abandoned vehicle near Rajupakala village of Chintapalle mandal in the Visakhapatnam agency here the other day.
The seized ganja is suspected to be worth around Rs 2 crore.
Police are investigating the case through the registration number of the vehicle. According to Chintapalle DSP R Raghavendra Rao, the police teams engaged in vehicular checking at a checkpost on the outskirts of Rajupakala village in Chintapalle mandal after receiving information.
Noticing the police, the driver of the vehicle parked it on the side of the road and fled from the spot. The police have recovered around 1,300 kgs of ganja packed in 34 gunny bags each weighing about 40 kg. Police said that as per the truck’s records, it belongs to a person from Golugonda area of Narsipatnam.
Police sources also said that while the seized ganja could have been purchased at a cost Rs 12 lakh, it could sell for around Rs 2 crore in big cities after being processed.
