NEW DELHI: Police sources said that personnel from Sindupatti police station were engaged in routine vehicle patrol on Tirumangalam-Usilampatti road when they intercepted a mini van near Pannikundu village around Saturday midnight. When the police attempted to enquire them, four members in the vehicle allegedly ran away into the fields along the roadside.
An official from the Tirumangalam Taluk police station said that though the police personnel gave a chase, they could not trace them. On searching the vehicle, the police found 120 kg of ganja stashed in a sack.
Another 10 kg of ganja was seized from a house in Bharathi Nagar in Mottaimalai coming under Thanakkankulam panchayat on Sunday morning. Sources said that the police raided the house based on a tip-off. The police arrested N. Kasi (65), who was in the house, and are on the lookout for another suspect.
