VISAKHAPATNAM: The Visakhapatnam Rural police seized 14 red-sanders logs, each measuring about three feet, from a cattle-shed of farmer N Appala Naidu at Line Kotturu village under Yelamanchili rural police station limits Tuesday morning. Police are yet to ascertain details on the seizure.
According to Yelamanchili circle inspector K Venkat Rao, they raided the cattle-shed on a tip-off and seized the logs. During investigation, Appala Naidu feigned ignorance about the logs.
The police also said that smugglers might have transported the logs from other states and dumped them in the cattle-shed fearing checks on the outskirts.
“We are yet to ascertain the details of the case like who had kept them here and from where they were procured. A case has been registered and we are investigating,” the CI said.
This is the third incident in the last one year where a huge quantity of red-sanders was seized in Visakhapatnam district. In June 2014, the II Town police seized a container truck loaded with red-sanders near Gokul Theatre in Allipuram. Simultaneously, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) also seized a container in the Port area.
