PUNE: The Pune crime branch recently arrested a 28-year-old smuggler and seized 23 kgs of marijuana worth Rs 2.74 lakh from his possession.
The police have identified the suspect as Ramesh Sopan Jadhav (28) of Mauli Prasad Colony, Alandi in Khed Taluka. The anti-narcotics cell of the Pune crime branch led by inspector Shrikant Navale has made the arrest.
Navale told TOI that police constable attached to the anti-narcotics cell Krishna Nidhalkar has received a tip-off that one person would be coming on Talawade road in Nigdi for selling marijuana. “We laid a trap on Talawade road and nabbed the suspect, who arrived there on a motorcycle,” Navale said.
Navale said that the suspect Jadhav was carrying two bags with him. “When we checked the bags, we found the bags were filled with marijuana,” Navale added.
He said that the suspect Jadhav was carrying 23 kgs of marijuana worth Rs 2.74 lakh with him. “He was in preparation to sell to some person,” Navale said.
Navale said that the police have registered the offence against the suspect Jadhav under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) with the Nigdi police station, he said.
The investigating team comprised police constables Dnyandeo Ghanwat, Rakesh Gujar, Rohan Chavarkar, Ramchandra Yadav, Kunal Mane, Nitin Sanap and Sangita Jadhav.
