Indian police seize illegal foreign liquor consignment worth Rs26 lakh

CHANDRAPUR: Enhanced vigil during the gram panchayat elections has helped cops make the biggest haul of illegal liquor after promulgation of prohibition in Chandrapur.

The special squad of SDPO Pralhad Giri seized illegal foreign liquor consignment worth Rs26 lakh smuggled from Gujarat during wee hour raid on Sunday.

Acting on a tip-off, a squad led by head constable Vilas Gedam intercepted a truck near the railway over bridge in Babupeth here. Cops seized 180 boxes of foreign liquor along with the truck.

The truck bears registration number of Gujarat and accused, Pankaj Charate and Vikky Sharma, arrested with the truck hail from Valsad of Gujarat. Offence under relevant sections of law has been registered against the two.

It is second successive big raid by SDPO squad. A few days back, the same squad had seized liquor worth Rs10 lakh near Ballarpur.
