VIZIANAGARAM: The red sanders smuggling activities have been traced to Vizianagaram, some 850 km away from the home for the species in Seshachalam hills, as the district police seized 94 logs weighing 3,740kg with an estimated market value of Rs. 1 crore from a cattle shed at Vellepadu in Jami mandal on Wednesday.
It is the first time cases related to red sanders smuggling was reported from the district. According to S. Kota CI S. Lakshmana Murty, the family of Vella Ramachandrudu, who owns the cattle shed, claimed that some unidentified persons visited them four days ago and requested them to store some logs in the shed on their farm land.
