BENGAL: In one of the biggest drug seizures on the India-Bangladesh border in recent past, the Border Security Force seized about 10 kgs of cocaine worth Rs.40 crore.
Senior officials of the South Bengal Frontier of the BSF described it as the biggest seizure along the entire Eastern border. A truck carrying the drug was coming from Bangladesh to India and was intercepted at Petrapole checkpost in North 24 Parganas district.
“The apprehended truck driver is Suman Shil (22) and a resident of Bongaon in the State’s North 24 Parganas. Shil and the seized drug have been handed over to the Narcotics Control Bureau for further action,” the BSF official said.
Though the truck bearing number WB-25 D 9670 was intercepted on Wednesday on specific information that it might be carrying drugs, it was only during the day that the BSF after tests confirmed that the seized drug is cocaine.
Senior BSF officers pointed that though drugs like ganja and phensedyls are occasionally intercepted along the border along with cattle heads but seizure of high value drugs has indicated that organised gangs are operating on both sides of the border.
