AMRITSAR: Alert jawans ex-50 battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) today confiscated 1 kg of heroin worth Rs 5 crore in the international market from the area of Udhar Dhariwal border outpost in the Amritsar sector.
BSF authorities, in a press release issued here today, said that the troops were on high alert following intelligence inputs regarding a smuggling attempt in the area of Udhar Dhariwal BoP. Last night, the jawans observed some suspicious movements of Pakistan-based smugglers near the border fence at the international border.
“When the smugglers started throwing packets from over the barbed-border fence, the jawans immediately challenged them and asked them to stop. However, they managed to escape taking advantage of darkness. During the search, the BSF found one packet of contraband, suspected to be heroin, said RS Kataria, senior public relations officer, BSF.
Till now, the BSF has seized around 75 kg of heroin from the Amritsar sector alone. It has confiscated a total of around 169 kg of heroin from the Punjab frontier.
