India’s NCB destroys 511 kg of seized heroin

CHANDIGARH: In its largest destruction of seized heroin ever, a high-level drug disposal committee of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) gathered at M/s Rainbow Environments Pvt Ltd here today for the disposal of seized drugs, mainly heroin and opium.

After physical verification of the seized drugs, the committee destroyed 511 kg of heroin by way of burning it in an incinerator. Permission was obtained from the Punjab Pollution Control Board for burning the drugs in the incinerator at Balyali village.

The heroin was carried to the place of destruction under the supervision of a special guard of the Chandigarh Police.

The committee said due permission had been taken from the court for the disposal of the drugs. The drugs (heroin) were seized in 62 cases spread over the 2007-2015 period. The seized drugs also included 9.9 kg of opium which, according to the rules, will be deposited in Government Opium and Alkaloid Factory, Neemuch, Madhya Pradesh.

This is the largest destruction of seized heroin carried out by the Narcotics Control Bureau so far. The bureau is committed to following the new guidelines promulgated in January 2015 for the disposal of seized drugs.

The committee comprised Rajender Pal Singh, Deputy Director General (Northern Region), NCB, New Delhi, Kaustabh Sharma, Zonal Director, NCB, Chandigarh and Jagbir Singh, DSP (Crime), Chandigarh.
