India’s S&P CNX Nifty up 0.62% to end in green

NEW DELHI: India stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Capital Goods, Green Energy and Banking sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty rose 0.62%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.77%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were ACC Ltd (NSE:ACC), which rose 4.09% or 61.15 points to trade at 1557.30 at the close. Meanwhile, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NSE:HLL) added 3.90% or 34.05 points to end at 907.15 and Hero MotoCorp Limited (NSE:HROM) was up 3.45% or 80.30 points to 2409.40 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Wipro Ltd. (NSE:WIPR), which fell 5.81% or 33.60 points to trade at 544.55 at the close. Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NSE:ONGC) declined 2.51% or 8.05 points to end at 312.30 and State Bank Of India (NSE:SBI) was down 1.85% or 5.35 points to 283.85.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which rose 3.59% to 905.10, Hero MotoCorp Limited (BO:HROM) which was up 3.40% to settle at 2408.60 and Larsen & Toubro Limited (BO:LART) which gained 3.29% to close at 1744.90.
The worst performers were Wipro Ltd. (BO:WIPR) which was down 6.01% to 544.00 in late trade, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which lost 2.61% to settle at 312.10 and State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 1.71% to 284.10 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 722 to 693 and 7 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 296 fell and 283 advanced, while 1 ended unchanged.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was up 1.06% to 17.2100 a new 1-month high.
Gold for June delivery was down 0.06% or 0.70 to $1202.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.34% or 0.20 to hit $56.41 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.30% or 0.18 to trade at $61.90 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.10% to 62.915, while EUR/INR rose 0.53% to 67.8400.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.47% at 97.74.
