A number of consumers from differ city areas including Dhamial, Satellite Town, People’s Colony, Westridge and Hathi Chowk, regretted that they were paying hefty monthly bills regularly but remained deprived of gas supply either on account of loadshedding or faulty gas meters. They alleged that they had applied for replacement of faulty meters and had submitted the forms to the staff concerned but to no vail.

The applicants expressed annoyance and concern over what they termed wrong method and practice adopted by SNGP to charge gas tariff from the domestic consumers particularly against those whose meters are non-functional. Interestingly, they alleged that they received a call from anonymous number the next day. The caller while referring to the case demanded Rs3,000 for installing new gas meter at their residences within 24 hours. They alleged that they ignored the caller, however, the next day they again received the same call from an anonymous number.

The applicants of new gas meters appealed to Petroleum Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to take serious note of the matter with reference to wrong method adopted by SNGPL authorities for claiming gas tariffs through estimation from the consumers and delaying installation of new meters.
