JAKARTA: The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and Customs Director General succeeded in foiling the smuggling of 270 kilograms of sabu-sabu (crystal methamphetamine) from China.
Finance Minister Bambang Brodonegoro said the smuggling was discovered from the information received from the BNN. Officials conducted inspection in Citra Guna building in Dumai, Riau and found 279 kilograms of sabu-sabu in water filter tube, cutting machine and compressor, said Bambang during a press conference in BNN office.
BNN chief Comr. Gen. Budi Waseso said the BNN, Customs and the police found out that the drugs would be distributed to Medan. “The crime scene is in Yos Sudarso, Medan Deli, North Sumatera. The drugs were brought from China through Malaysia,” he said.
Two suspects have been detained in the case; they are Jimmy Nasution and Lukmansyah.
However, only Jimmy and two witnesses who were present at the press conference. “Suspect L could not be transported to Jakarta due to haze disaster in Riau,” said Budi.
According to Jimmy, he had been smuggling drugs four times. “The first time I brought 26 kilograms, the second 80 kilograms, the third 80 kilograms,” he said, adding that he was promised to be paid Rp50 million if he succeeded the fourth time.
For their deeds, both suspects are subjected to article 114 verse 2 and article 112 verse 2 juncto article 132 verse 1 of Law No. 35 in 2009 about Narcotics with death penalty or life imprisonment as the maximum possible punishment.
