JAKARTA: Customs and excise officials and police at Soekarno Hatta International Airport have foiled an attempt to smuggle methamphetamine from China.
Erwin Situmorang, the head of the Customs and Excises Office, said on Thursday that two packages were sent to a man identified only as R in May. Officers became suspicious of the packages and made further examinations.
The officers then found 0.8 kilograms of methamphetamine hidden inside marker pens as well as another 1.06 kilograms inside an iron cylinder. Two couriers were arrested in a follow-up operation.
Kompas.com reported that the couriers said the smuggling was controlled by two prisoners in Tangerang Detention Center.
