JAKARTA: Indonesia expects a tax shortfall of Rp 218 trillion ($16.7 billion) this year, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said on Tuesday (25/10).
“We’re looking at all potential tax revenues this year and we still see a tax shortfall of about 218 trillion rupiah,” Indrawati said at an event in Jakarta. “After the first period of the tax amnesty, our tax revenues have not seen a significant increase yet,” she said.
The government is hoping a tax amnesty scheme launched this year will provide it with billions of dollars to help cover a large fiscal deficit and expand the tax base.
