BALI: Bali Customs officers foiled a smuggling plot trying to bring nine Harley Davison motorcycles from Singapore to Bali.

A report by Puji Sukiswanti published on Okezone quoted an unidentified Customs and Excise officer as saying the smuggling was uncovered when the officer got a tip about a cargo ship coming in from Singapore.

The nine hogs, without official customs documents, were apparently found in a shipping container docked at the Port of Benoa on Oct. 21.

“So after awhile we suspected these were illegal,” the customs officer said in Denpasar on Thursday.

Results of an investigation found that the bikes were accidentally sent as part of a series of events for the Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) for the Asia Pacific Region that’s being held in Kuta from Nov. 4 to 8.

Port of Benoa Police Chief I Nyoman Gatra confirmed the confiscation of the nine Harleys to Okezone, but said the case lies under Bali Customs and Excise jurisdiction—while that body has not yet confirmed the case for the record.
