JAKARTA: US shrimp imports in July increased year-on-year from each of the top six exporters except Ecuador, which saw its exports drop over 31% from 9,305 metric tons to 6,418t, according to the latest figures from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
This dropped the country from the third largest importer to the fourth largest for that month. Imports from India increased by 19.2% and it remained the top exporter to the US, which imported 13,914t from the country.
Indonesia saw the biggest y-o-y increase, 41.1%, which bumped its exports from 9,212t to 12,996t.
Thailand, Vietnam and China increased y-o-y exports by 37.8%, 0.25% and 23.8% respectively. Overall shrimp exports rose y-o-y from 47,678t to 52,726, and increase of over 10%.
Overall value of shrimp imports increased by 19% to $487.3 million, raising price from $8.57 per kilogram to $9.22/kg.
