Inflation at 13yr low, reserves up to $16,000m: PM underlines govt’s economic progress

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, while talking to a World Bank delegation, has said that his government has set the priorities such as energy, education, economy and elimination of extremism.

Sharif said that Pakistan’s macro-economic situation is improving, inflation is at the lowest level in past 13 years, and foreign exchange reserves are considerably up [to $16,194.2 million], while fiscal deficit is down. He thanked World Bank for its continued support for Pakistan.

The World Bank delegation congratulated the Prime Minister on economic progress and said there is huge potential in Pakistan’s economy especially in agriculture and dairy sectors. The delegation said the World Bank has scaled up its support for Pakistan due to better economic conditions in the country.

Leader of the WB delegation Annette Dixon appreciated the steps taken by the government in improving relations with Afghanistan and said this would contribute towards lasting peace in the region.
