Inflation rises sharply by 2pc in September

ISLAMABAD: Inflation in the country has increased sharply by 2 per cent to reach an annual rate of 5.6 per cent, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics reported.

According to details, the prices rose by 5.5 per cent in urban areas and 5.8 per cent in rural areas. The inflation rate for July to September stood at 4.22 per cent.

Flooding caused an increase in the prices of several essential commodities.

Last month, the price of tomatoes rose by Rs 65 per kilogram, while wheat increased by 38 per cent. Flour became 34 per cent more expensive, onions by 28 per cent, and vegetables by 9 per cent.

Potatoes rose by 5.72 per cent and eggs by 4.9 per cent over the month. Butter, sugar, rice and gur also saw price increases.
