MIRPUR: With the aim to boost wheat production in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), an integrated plan has been launched in the state, official sources said.

About 800 metric tons of high quality approved wheat seed has reportedly been supplied recently to the growers in all AJK districts in line with their requirement, the sources told APP. They said cultivators in AJK had to face problems in receiving the approved wheat seed in time every year which, caused delay in the growing process in most of the areas. They said about 20 metric tons of wheat seed was supplied to the farmers after the AJK Agriculture Department produced the same from its own farms.

“Thus the required wheat seed has already been made available to the growers in all AJK districts to ensure their timely forthcoming cultivation”, the sources added. They said that through the agricultural calendar the field staff as well as growers would be kept informed about the schedule of the set agricultural activities throughout the calendar year. “It will also help the growers and field staff to perform their respective professional activities in their areas according to the schedule”, they added.
