Internal Audit-Customs observes Rs 860m short recovery at Port Qasim

KARACHI: The Directorate General of Internal Audit-Customs has observed short recovery of Rs 860 million in clearance of miscellaneous items from MCC-Port Muhammad bin Qasim, it is learnt here.

The sources informed Customs Today that the authorities concerned, while following the directives of the Director General Internal Audit-Customs Rubina Wasti, has scrutinised the clearance data of miscellaneous items, which had been cleared from MCC-Port Muhammad bin Qasim during the period of 2012-13.

During scrutinising the data, the authorities detected short revenue of Rs 860 million in terms of sales tax, income tax, mis-classification of valuation rulings in the different imported consignments.

After finalizing the audit observations, the authorities concerned sent the report to the DG Internal Audit-Customs Rubina Wasti for further proceedings.

It is pertinent to mention here that the authorities have already expressed its concerned that the MCC-Port Muhammad bin Qasim authorities were not being replied the audit paras sent by the Internal Audit-Customs.

Therefore, it is matter of concerned that the authorities of MCC-Port Muhammad bin Qasim will give the response of the audit observations sent by the Internal Audit-Customs regarding the short revenue recovery in imported consignments of miscellaneous items.
