Internal Audit Customs to initiate audit of steel consignments from next week

KARACHI: The Directorate General of Internal Audit-Customs on the directives of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is going to start audit of steel consignments which have been cleared through Customs Appraisement (East), Appraisement (West) and Port Muhammad Bin Qasim, it is learnt here.

The sources confirmed that the authorities concerned of the Directorate General of Internal Audit-Customs would start the audit of the steel consignments from next week.

The sources further disclosed that the audit of the importers-cum-exporters would likely to be started from Monday in order to check the veracity of the imported consignments and compare the quantum of the import of steel to the export of steel manufactured goods to the other country.

Responding to a query, the sources informed that the FBR authorities concerned through a letter has directed the authorities of the Directorate General of Internal Audit-Customs to initiate the audit of imported steel consignments for last fiscal year i.e.2014-15.

“The core aim to start the audit of the steel consignments from all three field formation Collectorates is to check the import of raw steel and quantum of exported manufactured goods by taking exemption of SRO”, sources added.

Replying to a query, the sources confirmed that a study report regarding the gold scam would be revealed on Monday or Tuesday in the next week.
