LAS VEGAS: Once again in 2015, Apple and Google will not be attendance at CES, which takes place Jan 6 to 9.
But the two tech giants are still at the centre of the leading innovations presented in Las Vegas. In particular, Apple and Google are essential to the development of the internet of things (IoT), as the vast majority of connected objects are controlled from iOS and/or Android terminals.
This year, a record number of over 900 exhibitors will present innovations in this field. Each will demo new products and services involving connected objects being controlled from a PC or smartphone.
The idea behind the IoT is to connect virtually every object to the internet, from watches and cars to toothbrushes and toaster ovens.
Microsoft and Amazon are among the other industry leaders that traditionally forgo the Las Vegas trade show, preferring to reveal their latest innovations at dedicated keynote events and conferences, as Apple and Google do. The Redmond-based software giant, for example, will unveil the main consumer features of Windows 10 at a special event on Jan 21, after the CES buzz has subsided.
