NEW YORK: International Data Corporation discloses that the global tablet market continued falling. As per market-tracker IDC, shipments of tablets and ‘two-in-one’ devices, which have features of both tablet and laptop, declined to 47.1 million in a fall of almost six percent from the first three months of last year.

According to IDC senior research analyst Jitesh Ubrani, “Although the tablet market is in decline, two-in-one’s are certainly a bright spot. While two-in-one, or detachables, still account for a small portion of the overall market, growth in this space has been stunning”.

According to analyst, companies like Acer, Asus and E-FUN have benefited with value-priced two-in-one devices and Microsoft has been successful with the Surface Pro 3 at the high-end of the market. According to IDC, sales of Apple iPads have affected since buyers prefer iPhones or Mac laptop computers. As per the market-tracker, 12.6 million iPads were shipped by Apple in the quarter as compared to 16.4 million in the same period a year ago.

IDC anticipated that iPad sales will go on falling until an advanced new model, possibly with a larger screen hits the market. According to IDC, Chinese computer company Lenovo was among those tablet makers, who saw growth in the declining overall market as a result of low-price offerings and a diverse product line. IDC reported that 2.5 million tablets were shipped by Lenovo in the quarter as compared to two million shipped during the first three months of last year.
