BRENT: NASA said that a short circuit has happened at the International Space Station on Friday. Owing to it, power systems at one part of the ISS have gone offline and to fix them, it may require a resupply mission and spacewalk. There was no danger to the crew.
NASA said in its blog post that one of the station’s eight power channels went down. But since then also, all orbital controls and communications are working. “Ground teams are discussing future repair plans and are currently able to manage the power balance for the foreseeable future”, affirmed NASA.
NASA spokesman Dan Huot said that the station operations continue to take place. It is not the first time that such an incident has taken place. Earlier as well, such failures have happened and they can be corrected. But the parts required are currently not present with the crew, but Huot has said that they will soon be sent in a resupply missions.
Huot was of the view that the parts will be sent on SpaceX-8 to be launched sometime in early 2016. Power system is working perfectly therefore, there is nothing to worry out. The repair work that would be carried out this time would be akin to the one done in October 2014 in which six-hour spacewalk was carried out by astronauts Scott Kelly and Kjell Lindgren.
