Internet users worldwide connect to internet through 3 different devices on average, research shows

LONDON:  Between desktops, laptops, smart phones, tablets and smart TVs, internet users worldwide connect to the internet through 3.35 different devices on average, according to a study published by GlobalWebIndex.

Overall, the survey found that men surf the web from 3.43 devices on average, compared to 3.27 for women. The average number of devices used to go online was over three for all age groups with the exception of the 55-64 set, who were not far behind at 2.81. At the opposite end of the spectrum, the 25-34 groups had the highest average device count, at 3.66.

The survey also revealed a positive correlation between income level and the number of devices used to access the internet, as the top-earning 25% of respondents used 4.08 devices on average.

Only 3% of respondents said they only use a single computer to go online.

The study was published by GlobalWebIndex, which carries out quarterly surveys of several thousand internet users aged 16 to 64 in 32 different countries.
