SIALKOT: Interpol police has arrested an illegal travel agent in Saudi Arabia and handed him over to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Islamabad airport. The accused was wanted in a case of misappropriation of Rs 500 million.
According to detail, Haji Muhammad Akram, who is the owner of Nimra Travel Agency, Daska, had started working for overseas employment and introduced cheap Umera scheme. He advertised in newspapers and collected around Rs 500 million from 2800 people of various cities in 2015.
The accused fled to Dubai. The victims tried to contact him for their visas but found his number off. The victims started protesting against him and blocked roads. The FIA Gujranwala Region registered a case against the suspect and arrested his three relatives. The FIA team recovered 2,800 passports from the suspect’s house and sealed his property.
The accused left Dubai and shifted to Saudi Arab after listening about a case registered against him. The FIA contacted Interpol police for his arrest. The Interpol police arrested the accused in Saudi Arab and handed him over to the FIA at Islamabad airport.
During investigation, the accused has said in his statement that minimum expenditure of Umera performing visa endorsement was Rs 1 lakh but I got Rs 50,000 from each person when I demanded for more Rs 50,000 then people started quarreling with me and they used harsh language. That is why I left the country.
