Photographs of Italian expeditions feature at Pakistan Mountain Festival

ISLAMABAD: In connection with 4th Pakistan Mountain Festival, an exhibition of photographs depicting features of interventions in Karakoram by the Italian expeditions began at Heritage Museum of the Lok Virsa here.

SEED Project Director Raffaele Del Cima inaugurated the exhibition that was arranged in connection with the 4th Pakistan Mountain Festival. The festival is jointly organized by Directorate of Sports and Culture of the CDA, Lok Virsa and the GLOF project of the UNDP and Climate Change Division.

On the occasion, Raffaele expressed that Pakistan possessed three mountain ranges that were full of natural resources which cold act as catalyst for prosperity if utilized sagaciously. The Italian scientists, researchers are providing technical support to the federal government and the government of Gilgit-Baltistan to manage its resources for the better life and livelihood of their people upstream and downstream.

He emphasized that alarming rise in threats to climate had enhanced responsibility manifold to combat the challenges.

In his speech, Pakistan Mountain Festival Director Munir Ahmed said that over 50 large sized panels were put on display to show some glimpses of the region where Italians had their major interventions in Pakistani mountain region. Central Karakoram National Park was notified in 1992, but all the development in the park was done just in the recent years under the framework of Pakistan-Italy Debt Swap Agreement (PIDSA).”

Over a dozen partners are playing their role to make the 4th edition of Pakistan Mountain Festival a success which include CDA, Lok Virsa, GLOF project of UNDP-Government of Pakistan, Rupani Foundation, AKRSP, SEED project, EvK2CNR, ICIMOD, Sustainable Tourism Foundation and the Adventurer Club.
