Int’l carpet exhibition from 6th

LAHORE: Organised by Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association and Trade Development Authority of Pakistan, the 34th Pakistan International Handmade Carpet Exhibition will be held here at a local hotel from October 6-8 (Thursday-Saturday).

Federal Commerce Minister Khurram Dastgir will open the three-day exhibition. The Carpet Exhibition chief organizer Major (r) Akhtar Nazir Khan Cooki said that the commerce ministry has declared full support for the handmade carpet sector in the country, approving Rs 7.5 million for the 34th international Pakistan hand-knotted carpet exhibition. He said that the funds approval was given by the Federal Commerce Minister Khurram Dastgir during a meeting with the delegation of Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association, consisting of Exhibition chief organizer, exhibition committee chairman Mian Atiqur Rehman and PCMEA former chairman Kh Shakir.

“The federal minister will cut the ribbon on Thursday morning to mark the opening of annual exhibition while Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif will chair the Awards Distribution Ceremony to be held on Friday evening.”

Newly-elected PCMEA chairman Usman Ghani said that this year the carpet show is going to be the largest showcase of Pakistan’s handmade carpets. The event will be visited by a large number of buyers from across the world while over 62 national manufacturers will display their products in the exhibition.

He said that the delegates from across the world had been invited and it was expected that over 134 foreign buyers would visit this magnificent carpet show.

The newly-elected PCMEA vice chairman Ch Riaz said that the carpet fair will not only facilitate the entrepreneurs and business owners but also highlight the soft image of the country.
