IPPs of 36,000MW highlighted amidst ‘Rs600b circular debt’: R-LNG-based projects attracting investors: Asif

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Mohammad Asif said the initiatives for developing power generation projects based on coal and re-gasified liquefied natural gas (R-LNG) have sparked the interest of international and local investors.

He was presiding as a chief guest at stakeholders’ consultative conference on “Coal and R-LNG Based Power Generation Projects” organised with the objective to seek views from the stakeholders regarding challenges being encountered by them in developing independent power producers (IPPs) and suggestions to improve the present power policy.

Coping with circular debt and slow recovery of dues by Discos were the priority areas of the government, he said. As per a report the power sector circular debt is hitting a record mark of Rs 600 billion. He said that government is actively working on transmission lines policy to attract investors.

On the occasion, the Private Power and Infrastructure Board (PPIB) managing director highlighted IPPs of 36,000MW through R-LNG, for which advertisements will soon be placed in national and international print media.
