KARACHI: Under the supervision of Director-General Rubab Sikander, Directorate of Intellectual Property Rights Enforcment (IPRE) South has seized large quantity of counterfeit mobile batteries, cosmetics and fashion accessories.
Sources said that Director General IPRE Rubab Sikander, Director IPRE South Naima Batool has expedited the anti-counterfeit drive by carrying out risk analysis and strict enforcement.
In November 2021, IPRE South seized and forfeited large quantity of mobile batteries of different brands including Xiomi, Huawei, Motorola, Techno etc. Moreover, large quantity of cosmetics, handbags, clutches and slippers of assorted brands were also seized.
Directorate General of IPR Enforcement was created for enforcement of IPR laws of Pakistan especially at the import and export stage. It also serves as the centralized contact office of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) for IPR related national and international organizations and trade & industry.
The Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) is one of the three pillars of WTO and include Copyright, Industrial designs & IC layouts, Trade Marks, Patents, Geographical indications etc.
Government has already taken the essential step of combining the IPR related work in different ministries into one organization called Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan (IPOP) with offices in Islamabad and Lahore. However, there is need for active collaboration and training and the Directorate General of IPR Enforcement will provide necessary help in all facets to the public.
