ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) Inland Revenue (IR) Directorate of Investigation and Intelligence has decided to write letter to the Ministry of Law for establishment of special courts in Islamabad to hear tax cases.
Official sources said that the IR-Intelligence has taken this decision keeping in view the shortage of tax officials for the prosecution of the cases as they have to cover long distance to attend the court hearing in Rawalpindi, besides performing their duties in the field against smuggling.
They added shortage of the tax officials was not only affecting the performance of the IR-Intelligence but also making the prosecution process slower.
The officials said that department was going to incept crackdown against the big tax defaulters due to which numbers of cases will be registered against them but the IR-Intelligence has limited resources to pursue the case in special court which was almost 40 kilometres away from the Islamabad.
Therefore, adopting futuristic approach, the department has decided to write letter for the establishment of court in the capital city of Pakistan for early settlement of the cases and making the prosecution process faster. The letter will be sent in next week.
